Why are we waiting?

We start on time. That’s a reasonable assertion to make, even if it’s the boss we’re waiting for. It signals we are serious about each other’s time. Another good rule: finish when you are done, not when the agenda says you are.

We know time is wasted waiting. So start on time.

Something that works in coaching is to leave the kit out on the floor. If you are coaching kids to skip, leave ropes, hurdles, anything they can jump on or over, lying around. Start on time. Join in when you’re ready. The bonus for the coach is that you get to see where the kids are that day — making it look easy, try this; stumbling around, try that instead.

The same thinking applies in any room you’re responsible for.

Meeting people where they are is intentional. Something we design for. And it’s worth the wait.

The alternative is frustration, wasted time, or disrespecting those who showed up on time.

Design accordingly.
